Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 2592: Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin Miami Dolphins Bullying Controversy - Part I; What QB Ryan Tannehill's Body Language Says (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Bullying, harassment, threats of violence and racial prejudiced are among the allegations that have been directed at Miami Dolphins guard Richie Incognito towards his teammate and offensive tackle Jonathan Martin. Incognito has been suspended without pay after Martin left the team on four days ago for fear for his safety.

Note: The original video has, since the original post, been removed from its online source. The images below however, were captured from this video

Ryan Tannehill is the Miami quarterback. Incognito and Martin are among the players most responsible for Tannehill's success and safety. One would expect that he is very in-tune with his offensive linemans' temperaments.

In the short segment of Tannehill's appearance within the above video (beginning at 1:23), the Miami quarterback is asked, "Did you have any sense that anything was wrong in their relationship?"

Tannehill then answered, "No, no - none at all. Ummm, you know I think if you would have asked Jon Martin a week before you know who his best friend on the team was he would have said, 'Richie Incognito' ".

Throughout Tannehill's appearance in this video, he exhibits multiple examples of "Duping Delight". This nonverbal phenomenon is an outward manifestation of joy (delight) at the act of deception (duping). This delight cannot be fully suppressed - thus these signals "leak out" in partially suppressed smiles. Note that none of these smiles are sincere in the classic sense and they are all trace to subtle in magnitude. Duping delight can also be manifested by a microexpression.

A duping delight subtle/partial smile is particularly potent and telling in the presence of a "Central Forehead Contraction" (CFC) which Tannehill displays multiple times and are captured in several of the images below.
