Nonverbal Communication Analysis # 2248: Barack Obama's Body Language regarding the Republicans & the Fiscal Cliff on "Meet the Press"

When it comes to body language, nuance is crucial. How good are you at spotting subtle nonverbal displays which - if seen and accurately interpreted - will give you a dramatic insight into the minds of others? Most people are nowhere near as observant as they believe. And almost none have an even rudimentary nonverbal vocabulary.

During the 0:53 - 1:04 segment of this video, the Mr. Obama says, "The way they're behaving is that their only priority is making sure tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans are protected - that seems to be their only over-riding, unifying theme." Within this segment, for about 3 seconds (beginning at about the 1:00 mark), the President's head tilts back as he says, "...that seems to be their only over-riding, unifying ..." This backwards head tilt is a subtle nonverbal signal of contempt for the Republicans.
