Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 2704: Barack Obama, John Boehner and the State of the Union Address - Body Language Tells (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Last night President Obama gave his fifth State of the Union Address. It is protocol for the Vice President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to sit behind the President. In the video above (and highlighted in the image below), both Joe Biden and John Boehner displayed many nonverbal signals - yet one in particular will go unrecognized by all but a few. Mr. Boehner can be seen wiping his nose (1:02 - 1:06) - however this wasn't because of any nasal dysfunction. It is very common for the emotion of disgust to be subconsciously camouflaged as a nose wipe or rub. This is direct contrast to his conscious display of clapping. Whenever the verbal and nonverbal messages are in incongruent - it is the nonverbal that is always correct.
