The political activity of kissing babies or children is of course an attempt to gain rapport and therein get votes. Yet when these actions aren't performed with sincerity, they will backfire - for feigned sincerity destroys rapport. More specifically, in a political context, while such performances may solidify one's political base - these will absolutely alienate the swing voters.
Today in Wisconsin (currently considered as a swing state), Donald Trump asked for two children to be come up on stage with him. Mr. Trump's expression in the image above is indicative of contempt.
In this second image, captured a split second later, Mr. Trump's expression morphs into one primarily of disgust (with some secondary contempt).
Later at the same event, Mr. Trump again displays contempt upon holding a second child.
