Negotiation Nonverbal Communication Secret # 1482:
George Clooney's Lizard Tongue (Tongue Jut)

George Clooney gives us a great example here of a "Lizard Tongue". Some may also refer to this a "Snake Tongue or a "Tongue Jut". Depending on the other body language it is clustered with, this nonverbal may indicate: "I've been bad", "I've got caught", "I got away with something", excitement or "I did a foolish thing"(Navarro). It can also indicate self-deprecating humor or excitement depending on the other nonverbals with which it is clustered. Although Clooney uses it here with a sincere smile - it is often much less obvious in business and other settings. The lizard tongue is a common tell when there is surreptitious activity afoot or during negotiations.
