Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 3709: Kate Middleton - The face you make when you’re married to a prince but you meet Justin Trudeau - Body Language and Emotional Intelligence (PHOTOS)

Some on social media have cleverly captioned this picture, "The face you make when you’re married to a prince but you meet Justin Trudeau".

Kate Middleton's body language speaks volumes. When we thin-slicing her nonverbal signals we see:

1. Her smile is sincere
2. Her face is blushing
3. She's performing (initiating) a HABE gesture (Hair Adjustment Behind Ear)
4. Her head and neck are flexed forward - as well as side-tilted toward the Canadian Prime Minister
5. She's locked in eye contact with Justin Trudeau

Despite standing next to Prince William, Kate's body language cluster in this moment is strongly indicative of her sincere attraction for Justin. Of course, like the rest of us, she's only human - and also, like the rest of us, simply being physically attracted to another person does not at all mean she will act on this feeling. Yet there's no denying she finds Mr. Trudeau alluring.

The next time you're in Justin Trudeau's shoes - and on the receiving end of similar nonverbal behavior - you can be assured your onlooker finds you sexually attractive. And while, as we see here, it may be quite innocent - it may also just as likely be quite flirtatious.

Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 3696: Jimmy Kimmel's 2016 Emmys Opening Monologue - Sarah Paulson brought Marcia Clark - Body Language and Emotional Intelligence (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the Emmys again tonight - and his opening Monologue is included above. He spent a significant chunk of time singling-out the cast (and the real people) of The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

During the 1:05 segment of the video (captured below) we can see two particularly noteworthy nonverbal signals.

Both Marcia Clark (left) and Sarah Paulson (who plays Ms. Clark and who invited her to the Emmys) are laughing sincerely. In addition to rotating her head toward Ms. Paulson, Ms. Clark also tilts her head in the same direction. This tilting of the head during laughter is a sincerity amplifier as well as a rapport multiplier. Whenever we share sincere laughter with another person - there's not only humor and joy-happiness transpiring - but just as valuable (yet very under-appreciated) the laughter additionally facilitates emotional bonding (however it MUST be sincere laughter). Simultaneous head-tilting toward the other person further strengthens this laughter connection.

Looking carefully at Ms. Paulson we can see she's jutting her tongue out between her teeth in the midst of her sincere laughter. This is one variety of a "Tongue Jut" (more specifically, it's a "Loose Forward Tongue Jut"). This nonverbal behavior is an indication of the emotion of "I've been caught" and embarrassment (e.g., by Kimmel and by the camera). In addition, a component of what's being felt and expressed in this moment is self-deprecating in nature.

Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 3034: Body Language of High Affection - "Most Amazing Marriage Proposal Ever" - Christmas Eve 2013 - Jamie & Tyne Owen - Family Photo Surprise (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Many people chronically confuse flirting behavior with affection - as well as sexual attraction/sexual behaviors with affection. While of course there is some overlap, these emotions and their corresponding body language signals are different phenomena. And there are of course many nonverbal displays of affection.

Last Christmas Tyne Owen proposed to his then-girlfriend Jamie in a very creative way (above video and captured in the image below). Head-to-head, head-to-shoulder and head-to-neck contact are all indicative of a high degree of affection. Head/neck tilting itself also has an emotional comfort and emotional vulnerability associated with it - e.g., the kind of vulnerability where you are "inviting" someone into your world - and not a vulnerability of weakness. Of course such affection and deliberate emotional exposure is not limited to romantic love.

Sincere affection displays are signals of true love and their waxing and maintenance are highly correlative with the crescendo and subsequent preservation of a healthy relationship ... while their waning indicates a rift, declination and, when precipitous, may even indicate infidelity. False affection displays are easily spotted if you know the nonverbal nuance.
