Nonverbal Communication Analysis # 2087:
Mitt Romney's Sincerity -
Shaking Hands and Kissing Babies

Pay no attention to the secret service guy on the right. Here, Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney holds a baby at a recent campaign event. Infants evoke a natural protective and nurturing response in virtually all who see them. Head-to-head contact is body language signal particularly indicative of sincere affection. One of the best things about running for high office - is holding all those babies. Here Mitt's affection is very sincere. Such images engage our empathy deeply. Even staunch democrats who witness Romney displaying this affection will be softened by it. And it makes the republicans like him even more.
