Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 3356: Anna Faris and Chris Pratt are Dressing their Son Up as a Dinosaur for Halloween - Body Language (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Anna Faris was recently a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live. During her appearance she spoke with significant trepidation regarding her son's costume for Halloween. The three year-old got to pick his costume this year and he chose a T-Rex. This of course is not surprising for most young boys except for one thing. Faris' husband and the boy's father is Chris Pratt - who was the male lead in the recent Jurassic World film. Faris fears some may see her son's costume as her and her husband's attempt at using their child's trick-or-treat experience as a marketing ploy.

Deep inhalation (with hissing) in conjunction with a mouth of fear and neck of fear

This is indicative of lower levels of fear and social fear rather than true physical fear. People who display this combination of nonverbal signals tend to have significantly higher empathy quotients.

R2E2 or the Rationalization Rapport Empathy Expression

Commonly displayed when a person is trying to win another person to their way of thinking - and attempting to get others to  co-rationalize and see their point-of-view.

Bilateral Hair Adjust with fear mouth. This is a truncated variation of the Hair Adjust Behind Ears. In this shortened version, Faris' fingers do not extend to the back of her ears. Her psyche is attempting to be more assertive - yet (together with another fear display of the face - primarily her mouth), Anna Faris's is not feeling very confident about the ramifications of her son's costume choice.  Intriguingly, when (in other scenarios) the fingers move the hair around to the backs of the ear(s) - the remainder of the facial expression and body language signals - and the emotional mind are all much more confident.

Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 3214: Chris Pratt, Jurassic World, Bad Acting and a Body Language Red Flag (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

A sure sign of a poor actor is one who over-uses his/her forehead. This is true whether they are using the entire forehead or seen in the context of a central forehead contraction (usually elevated, aka an "Elevated CFC"). The central forehead contraction is often clustered with some semblance of a mouth smile. Such "smiles" are false smiles though - and thus never sincere.

This CFC-pseudo mouth smile combination is often seen very commonly displayed by news reporters, attorneys, sales professionals, politicians, etc. - and other professions where there is low-to-medium quality acting. Said another way, these other professions require a degree and frequency of pretending one thing when another is felt - yet Daniel Day Lewis or Meryl Streep they are not.

Good actors and sincere people don't over-use their forehead muscles - and when they are contracted, the CFC seen in concert with congruent verbal and paralanguage.

Another setting where the forehead muscles are over-used is within the context of sociopathic behavior. These individuals are also chronically insincere. In fact - chronic insincerity is one of the cornerstones of a sociopath (What are its other key characteristics). Sociopaths are usually modest actors - but rarely great.

Below are three images from Jurassic World - a film which premiered in North American theaters today. One of these photos is captured from the video/trailer above. Chris Pratt dramatically over uses his forehead. He relies on his looks to carry his roles. His acting is sophomoric.
