Body Language Analysis No. 4167: Gary Oldman, Hugh Jackman, and Compliments - Nonverbal and Emotional Intelligence (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Gary Oldman was recently a guest on The Graham Norton Show promoting his just-released film, Darkest Hour - in which he plays Winston Churchill.  Many feel Mr. Oldman is one of the most skilled actors ever. He's also been called, "The Greatest Actor Yet to Win an Oscar".

Hugh Jackman certainly has great admiration for him - and he gives Oldman a great compliment in the clip included above.

Note Oldman's seating posture (immediately above) prior to Jackman's compliment - his legs were positioned in an alpha-beta hybrid configuration (feet flat on the floor with his upper legs angled slightly wider than parallel - while his knees are approximately his shoulder's width apart).

In this second image, Jackman has just begun addressing Oldman - and as Oldman is beginning to sense a compliment coming his way - his legs are drawing significantly closer - and are now parallel. The actor's knees are approximately 2/3 of his shoulder's width apart.

After Hugh Jackman praises Gary Oldman, Oldman's knees angle inward (almost touching) and his hands are placed together, palm to palm, in between his distal thighs and knees.

Summary: Gary Oldman's dynamic display of bringing his legs closer together - while repositioning his hands palm-to-palm between his legs/knees, demonstrated that he was humbled, unpretentious, and even shy upon receiving Hugh Jackman's compliment. Despite the fact he is one of the finest actors ever, when he wasn't acting - when "Gary was just being Gary" - his sincerity showed.
