Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 3724: The 2nd Presidential Debate - Donald Trump v. Hillary Clinton - Emotional Intelligence and a Profoundly Telling Body Language Signal (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

During the Second 2016Presidential Debate (in the video above, from 57:08 - 57:12), Donald Trump can be seen displaying in a very particular Body Language cluster-configuration.

Mr. Trump, with his feet in a wide stance, leans laterally left with his weight shifted, his left arm wide with his left hand is on the back of his chair, his right thumb is hooked inside his belt (or pants) with the remainder of his hand hanging loosely over his central, lower abdomen. Moreover during 57:10 Trump pulls up on his belt-pants in this central region - in a False Adjustment maneuver. He's also "Whole Body Pointing" toward Hillary Clinton.

Mr. Trump did something similar (but even more dramatic) last November when refuting a story of Ben Carson's (See: Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 3375: Donald Trump Questions Ben Carson's Stabbing Story).

In body language parlance, this is an example of a "MAP Surrogate" (Manipulator, Adaptor, Pacifier) - as well as a variation of a Partial Emblematic Slip. This dramatic act is very out of context for anyone on stage (other than during a true drama/play) and certainly during any kind of a political debate. This a Hyper-Alpha Sexual Display with Donald Trump attempting to project dominance and virility.

Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 3203: Caitlyn Jenner on Vanity Fair - Did Annie Leibovitz Project what she intended? - Body Language (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

A huge percentage of the time professional photographers pose their subjects in body language which is off the emotional-context mark - way off. They may be good at lighting, knowing the best angle, picking the right filter or lens - but relatively few professional photographers have any significant amount of nonverbal knowledge. The same is true for advertising professionals. The wrong expressions and body language are often used despite teams of people, months of effort and millions or even tens of millions of dollars spent (or more).

If Annie Leibovitz is trying to capture a successfully transitioning Caitlyn Jenner - from a body language perspective - she hits the mark. Of course a magazine cover presents a very different and artificial scenario vs. interpreting body language in real-time and real-life, however Jenner's arms behind her back with her hands clasped - projects a strength, confidence and alpha emotional tone - which is certainly in her character. It also sends signals of significant openness - and who in World history has made a more open transition? While of course currently there are other important reasons for such a configuration, by keeping her legs tightly crossed - Jenner still transmits femininity (as do her bare shoulders).

By rotating Caitlyn's head to one side (projecting coyness), tilting her head/neck downwards - makes it so that in order to have eye contact with the camera, she must look up - which necessitates more widely open eyes (This is true with her right eye, while Jenner's droopy left lid [ptosis] gives the secondary effect of "bedroom eyes" here - adding to the sexuality). The combination of Jenner's head & neck tilted down - yet upwardly gazing with Leibovitz's slightly downward camera angle, also projects a "come hither" look - which is often emulated in every day flirting and romance.

The one suggestion I would make regarding this specific photo, is to not have Kaitlyn's back a corner. This component gives the feeling of her being bad, trapped or "cornered" - and is a visual metaphor suggesting a decision that is punishment or forced, rather one of free will - which of course is an important sentiment and distinction.

Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 3160: Warren Sapp Recounts Night with Prostitutes - Body Language (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

TMZ Sports has just released a video of a portion of Warren Sapp's interview-interrogation associated with his subsequent arrest in Phoenix, Arizona on 2 February 2015 (the day after the Super Bowl) for allegedly soliciting a prostitute.

The above video is shown here because it includes a very telling nonverbal. When one arm (and often this is seen with both arms) is directed laterally (NOT pointed forward) - and usually for more than just a second or two - wherein the armpit is widely exposed (it may of course be covered by clothing), depending on the other nonverbal signals with which it is clustered, it usually indicates one of three emotional states:

1. Alpha Dominance
2. I or We have just been defeated or captured
3. Sexual attraction or sexual fantasy with a component of sexual arousal

Based on the other signals present, which of the above scenarios do you think applies to Warren Sapp in this scenario? How would your decision and body language analysis be influenced by the fact that at the time of this video, Mr. Sapp did not believe he was going to be arrested?
