Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 2664: Anchorman 2 Cast on Graham Norton - A Body Language Signal of Embarrassment (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Graham Norton guests included the cast of "Anchorman 2, The Legend Continues" recently and as usual, his show was hilarious. In this clip, Will Ferrell and Steve Carell role play anchormen and put two of Norton's audience members in some embarrassing spotlights.

Embarrassment has many body language tells - several of which are exampled here. One in particular bears highlighting - the "Forward Head Bob". Three excellent displays of the forward head bob are captured in still images below - however, as with most body language, these are best viewed in the dynamic context of the video (above). The woman named "Kate" feels embarrassed - revealing her previous phobia to eggs. There is often a component of apology with the forward head bob - and some would nuance the emotion as "sheepish".

The head bob may be seen in a single occurrence (e.g. one forward movement), several in a series a few moments apart (of which this is a good example) or multiple times in rapid succession (giving the appearance of a "head bobble doll").

It is not uncommon to see a coexisting "mouth of fear" accompanying the head bob/bobble.

Head bobbing/bobs are an examples of beta, lower confidence and low comfort body language.

What other accompanying signals are also seen in this "Embarrassment Cluster"?

Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 2627: Ron Burgundy in a Real News Cast - Will Ferrell's Body Language (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Ron Burgundy took part in a real newscast on 30 November 2013 in North Dakota. The actor Will Ferrell is brilliant in his melodramatic portrayal of the fictional news anchor. In a brilliant promo for his upcoming sequel, "Anchorman 2, The Legend Continues", Ferrell acted and reported for the duration of the broadcast (see above).

Ferrell's acting calls to attention a particular body language signal which he deliberately uses excessively as Ron Burgundy - the "Chronically Contracted Forehead". Perhaps one of the most reliable nonverbal signals of insincerity, when the forehead muscles are contracted a high percentage of time, be warned.

Although this is presented in a comedic context, the ability to detect insincerity in particular is skill which should be highly cultivated. For it's the individuals whom are adept at their insincerity who will position themselves in strategic places where they can cause long term damage.
