Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 3806: The Bachelor Nick Viall Awkwardly Reunites with Ex-Girlfriends Andi Dorfman and Kaitlyn Bristowe on Jimmy Kimmel - Body Language and Emotional Intelligence (VIDEO, PHOTO)

Nick Viall was a contestant on the Show The Bachelorette during seasons 10 and 11. He also has the distinction of being was dumped by both Andi Dorfman and Kaitlyn Bristowe on TV. The three recently had a reunion of sorts on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

There were many body language moments of interest captured in the above video -  and one of the more illustrative displays is highlighted here.

Note Mr. Viall's left leg is crossed over his right. This specific leg crossing configuration is known as a "Figure 4" (sometimes referred to as an "American Figure 4"). In this context it exemplifies classic nonverbal blocking behavior (If he had Crossed his legs in the opposite direction [toward the others], it would have still projected low emotional comfort - but it would have been less in magnitude).

The position of Viall's hands is a seated "Fig Leaf" analog - which is further evidence of strong blocking and protective behavior.

Another demonstrative nonverbal set of signals is the leaning away of Nick Viall's torso, head and neck. This distancing behavior is strong evidence of his emotional discomfort in this context with his former girlfriends, Andi Dorfman and Kaitlyn Bristowe.

Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 3345: Vladimir Putin, Barack Obama and a Handshake at the U.N. (PHOTOS)

Although it was not the first time they met on this day, Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama are captured here shaking hands at the recent United Nations General Assembly. This was, as so many are in the political realm, a highly choreographed moment - and yet what emotional information still "leaks"?

One key nonverbal tell in this photo is the relative angle/direction of their bodies. Mr. Obama is leaning into the handshake - projecting confidence, strength, an alpha emotional tone - and, although we know it's not the case here, it may (depending on the other body language with which it is clustered) also signal a genuine liking of the other person. What specific expression on Barack's face tells us that he doesn't care for Vladimir?

Vladimir Putin is leaning away from greeting the American - which may signal one of several things - disgust/dislike for Mr. Obama - or it could also be a signal of weakness & lower confidence - of a  beta emotional tone.  There are two very specific body language tells the Russian President is transmitting here which help us further thin-slice his emotions. What are they?

Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 3004: Sophia Loren Recounts Her Famous Sideways Glance Photo with Jayne Mansfield's Photo - But Does Her Explanation Match Her Body Language? Hmmmm (PHOTO)

Sophia Loren recently went on record (in her memoir, "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: My Life") describing what she remembered about this famous Hollywood moment at a Paramount-organized party for her in 1957 while sitting with Jayne Mansfield:

"She came right for my table. She knew everyone was watching. She sat down. And now, she was barely… Listen. Look at the picture. Where are my eyes? I’m staring at her nipples because I am afraid they are about to come onto my plate. In my face you can see the fear. I’m so frightened that everything in her dress is going to blow—BOOM!—and spill all over the table."

While Loren may have felt social "fear" because Mansfield's dress was going to "blow" before or after this famous "Sideways Glance" photo was captured, in THIS MOMENT she did not feel any fear, rather her expression is classic for disgust (along with some anxiety as well). While she was suppressing her display somewhat, her mid-facial tension, the flaring of her nostrils, along with the leaning away of her head and neck betray her true emotion of disgust. What other disgust amplifier signal is present here?
