Body Language Analysis No. 4051: Predicting Kim Jong-un's Behavior - Nonverbal and Emotional Intelligence (PHOTOS)

Yesterday North Korea exploded, what many believe, was their first hydrogen bomb (aka Thermonuclear weapon). Only five other countries possess hydrogen weapons - China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Hydrogen bombs are based on fusion (chain-reactions of hydrogen atoms joining together to form helium atoms, under very high temperatures and pressures - the process whereby our Sun [and all stars] produce energy). Fusion weapons are profoundly more powerful compared with fission weapons (the splitting of larger atoms [e.g., Uranium-235 and Plutonium-239] to release energy). Nuclear weapons based on fusion technology are also smaller and lighter - thus allowing for increased range of the ICBM and/or greater destructive power.

Virtually all other countries, including the Chinese and Russians, believe Kim Jong-un's rapid, offensive build-up of nuclear weapons is deliberately unjustified and destabilizing. And yet, North Korea is now a nuclear power. Thus it's profoundly important for any other head-of-state to be able to accurately predict his behavior.

Kim Jong-un has a deep desire to be seen by other World leaders - and the other 7.5 billion of us - constantly surrounded by subordinates. He very much wants to viewed as intelligent, wise, and powerful - with his underlings constantly writing his words, recording his wisdom, and taking his orders. From a nonverbal perspective, these other men can be thought of as extensions of himself. They are momentarily his surrogate arms, hands, face, and body. But rather than a gorilla beating its chest, a peacock spreading its feathers, or a rattlesnake shaking its tail - they are substitutes. They are temporary analogs. This repetitive and very public behavior is particularly highly correlated with Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

It's important to make the distinction, however, that these men are but evanescent plumage. As Kim Jong-un has frequently demonstrated - to him, the North Korean people are very much disposable - objects to be used, killed, and replaced. This behavior and world-view correlates with strongly with both Psychopathy and Machiavellianism.

Summary: Narcissists, particularly malignant narcissists, very often manipulate other people (indirectly or directly) using them as temporary, surrogate nonverbal expressions - in effect, extensions of their own bodies' - illustrating their own emotions'.

While we, of course, cannot conduct a formal psychological evaluation on Kim Jong-un - what we can view of his long-term behavior strongly correlates with Narcissism, Psychopathy, and Machiavellianism - the Dark Triad.

Body Language Analysis No. 4024: Donald Trump Threatens "Fire and Fury" to North Korea - Nonverbal and Emotional Intelligence (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Shades of October 1962 ... and things are moving quickly.

Earlier today, after a new report from US intelligence agencies said, they believe North Korea has now successfully produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead - such that it can fit inside its ICBMs - Donald Trump made the following declaration:

North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen. He has been very threatening - ah, beyond a normal state - and as I said, they will be met with fire and fury and, frankly, power, the likes of which this world has never seen before.”

In response, Kim Jong-un is now threatening Guam.

What does Donald Trump's nonverbal behavior in this video tell us?

It's highly unusual for Mr. Trump to have his arms crossed - particularly in such a hand-covered and tighten fashion. It's even rarer for him to do so while he's speaking. Moreover, he's also sitting back, away from the table, against the support of his chair - which is also highly unusual for him. This cluster of behavior is highly beta and a form of self-hugging/self-comforting. It indicates a low level of emotional comfort and lower confidence.

And yet - the President's verbal statement, vocal qualities (paralanguage) and his facial nonverbal displays during this same time are quite extreme and very alpha in nature.

Summary: This is an excellent example of alpha-beta hybrid behavior. Part of President Trump's display is very alpha - while other portions are quite beta. He is trying to be what he considers presidential while weighing the very real ramifications of "fire and fury". This indicates that Donald Trump's threat is very real - and, because his statement was extemporaneous, it carries even more weight. He is strongly and seriously considering a preemptive strike against North Korea in the near future.

Body Language Analysis No. 3988: Kim Jong-un, ICBMs, False Joy, and Fake Laughter - Nonverbal and Emotional Intelligence (PHOTOS)

North Korea launched another missile yesterday. While the maximum range of the weapon is a subject of much speculation - there is no debate that the Kim Jong-un now has at least minimal Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) capability. Experts also are debating whether or not his weapons technologists have yet achieved adequate miniaturization of nuclear weapons which would enable them to be carried aloft by these same missiles. Yet, there can be no doubt - their nuclear weapons will get smaller and they'll develop missiles with greater range.

Many have noted the poorly feigned facial expressions of the North Korean people when they're in the presence of Kim Jong-un.

In the image above, notice the government official on the left side of the photo - particularly his lower face. The corners of his mouth are pulled outward and most importantly, down. The soft tissue covering his jaw dramatically calls our attention to this dynamic. His lower lip is significantly protruding - barring his lower teeth. This is classic "mouth of fear" display.

Compare this to the image below - taken in the midst of a crash in the Tour de France on 2 July 2017 (Fortunately no one was seriously injured and all riders were able to return to the race). The mouths' of each man are pulled outward and down. Their lower lips are protruding. Their nostrils are flared. Obviously, no one is acting here. These men are each in a sincere moment of fear.

Now, look at the North Korean general on the right side of the above image. While he's doing a better job at pretending at feeling joy and laughter - his expression is also insincere. His mouth is pulled straight laterally (directly out to each side). This is a very common default expression - one variation of a "social smile".

Summary: Most people are not good actors - not even close. When they feign emotions (many times a day), while they often fool some people - yet they are destroying rapport and relationships with others. Are you being fooled or are you destroying?

Learn to discern and seek sincerity.
