Body Language Analysis No. 4176: Donald Trump's "Shit Countries" Comment, Emmanuel Mensah, and Alisyn Camerota - Nonverbal and Emotional Intelligence (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Alisyn Camerota recently grew emotional during a broadcast while recounting the story of Ghanaian immigrant - Emmanuel Mensah.

Mensah, a 26-year-old US Army Private saved four people from a fire in the Bronx before perishing on 28 December 2017. Only weeks before, on 21 September 2017, Private Mensah became a naturalized US citizen.

On 1 January 2018, Private Mensah was posthumously awarded the "Soldier's Medal" -  which is the Army's highest award for heroism occurring outside of combat.

Bill Kristol brought to light Mensah's courage and sacrifice in a recent tweet in response to President Trump's "Shithole Countries" remark. In her reading Kristol's tweet and her recounting Mensah's story, Ms. Camerota became saddened and teary-eyed.

To nuance Alisyn Camerota's expression further, you'll note six additional nonverbal signals in context:

• Upward Gaze
• Tongue in Cheek
• Blushing
• Conjunctival injection
• Lateral Jaw Thrusting
• Twisting Lips

These signals, particularly when clustered together, are indicative of sincere efforts at the suppression of tears (e.g., when a person is trying not to cry). Of course, there are some people who can "fake cry" (e.g., North Koreans who feign tears in the presence of Kim Jong-un) - but in such scenarios, these individuals would rarely display any of these individual signals of crying suppression - and essentially never do so in a clustered combination.

Summary: Ironically, the specific nonverbal manner in which Alisyn Camerota is suppressing her tears, indicates her tears and sadness are indeed sincere.

Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 2867: Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal, Ghana and The World Cup - Body Language Tells (PHOTOS)

Despite winning 2-1 against Ghana's National Team, Portugal was knocked out of the World Cup on Thursday (Portugal tied against the U.S. Team 2-2, and the U.S. also beat Ghana 2-1, and while both the U.S and Portugal lost to Germany - Portugal lost by a greater margin, 4-0, while the U.S. was defeated 1-0).

This image of Cristiano Ronaldo was taken after he scored the winning goal against Ghana. It displays Ronaldo in a great body language teaching moment, for he is showing contradictory nonverbal behavior. While his elevated clapping is a very conscious and a universal MAP (Manipulator, Adaptor, Pacifier) & Emblem of approval, his mouth and mid-face (though we can see less than half of it) are conveying two negative emotions - primarily that of regret and to a somewhat lesser degree disgust. These facial components are entirely subconscious driven.

Whenever there is a disparity between conscious and subconsciously directed nonverbal signals - it is the subconscious ones which represent the person's true emotions.
