Nonverbal Communication Analysis No. 2983: Shia LaBeouf on His Arrest on Jimmy Kimmel Live (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Shia LaBeouf was on Jimmy Kimmel Live on this past Monday night. During his appearance he gave a lengthy version of his June 2014 arrest in New York City.

During the 5:51 - 5:53 segment, LaBeouf can be seen briefly sitting on his hands. This particular nonverbal signal is a variety of MAP (Manipulator, Adaptor, Pacifier). It's anxiety indicator and more specifically it signals a momentary shift toward a significantly beta emotional tone. Of course, LaBeouf is an alpha male - yet all dominant personalities have their demure moments. And talking about getting arrested on National T.V. will bring out the beta in most of us.

Depending on the other nonverbals with which it is clustered, sitting on one's hands can also indicate an attempt to keep a secret or outright deception.
