Nonverbal Communication Analysis # 1913:
Obama gets Booed by Boston Red Sox Fans
as Kevin Youkilis goes to Chicago White Sox

Kevin Youkilis recently went from Boston Red Sox to Chicago White Sox in a trade. President Obama joked about this Monday during a trip to Boston. He may not have anticipated quite this level of booing from the audience though. In the video above he can be seen shuffling back and forth on his feet several times as if he were an older man trying to dance. This is a straightforward body language signal of anxiety and something for which a President and accomplished speaker should be relatively immune. Notice also the verbal signal of anxiety - where the President mispronounces "say" as "thay" (at 0:02). Very often verbal and nonverbal anxiety will portend/mirror/accompany each other.
